Mill Colonnade is the grandest of Karlovy Vary’s spa structures, a 19th‑century neo‑Renaissance masterpiece stretching along the Teplá River with 124 Corinthian columns. Built between 1871 and 1881, it was designed by Josef Zítek, the architect of Prague’s National Theatre, who envisioned a monumental promenade where visitors could enjoy the healing springs sheltered from the weather. Its elegant proportions and open arches make it one of the city’s most recognisable symbols. Inside the colonnade you can taste five mineral springs, each with its own temperature and mineral profile: Mill, Rusalka, Prince Wenceslas I and II, and the Rock Spring. Their ornate reliefs and carved nameplates add a historical charm to the experience. The interior also hosts seasonal concerts, taking advantage of the colonnade’s natural acoustics. Walking through it feels like stepping into the golden age of spa culture, when aristocrats and artists strolled here daily.

The Mill Colonnade (Mlýnská kolonáda) is the largest and most impressive colonnade in Karlovy Vary, located on the left bank of the Teplá River in the heart of the spa centre. Built in Pseudo-Renaissance style between 1871 and 1881, it stretches 132 metres and features 12 sandstone allegorical statues representing the months of the year on its attic gable. Nearby attractions make this area the main focus of any visit to Karlovy Vary. Just a 500-metre, 10-minute walk away is the famous Hot Spring Colonnade, housing the town’s most iconic geyser that shoots hot water nearly 12 metres high, along with the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene. Right next to the Mill Colonnade is the Market Colonnade, which contains three more springs including the Charles IV Spring, and the elegant cast-iron Park Colonnade in Dvorák Park. Also within easy walking distance are the Grandhotel Pupp, the historic Imperial Spa (Císařské lázně), the Castle Tower on a rock above the old town, the Jan Becher Museum dedicated to the local herbal liqueur, and the Moser Glass Museum on the western edge of town. The Mill Colonnade is freely accessible and serves as a perfect starting point for exploring Karlovy Vary’s spa heritage and architecture.
