City Park in Košice is one of the city’s oldest green spaces, a peaceful retreat shaped by more than a century of urban history. Established in the late 19th century, it originally served as a promenade for the growing bourgeoisie, and many of its mature trees date back to that era. One interesting fact is that the park once hosted open‑air concerts and social gatherings, becoming an early cultural hub long before modern venues appeared. Inside the park, visitors can enjoy winding paths, elegant lawns, and a small pond that reflects the surrounding greenery. Sculptures and memorials are scattered throughout, adding artistic touches to the landscape. The park’s bandstand, a charming historical structure, recalls the musical traditions that once animated the area. City Park (Mestský park) is located in the Old Town district of Košice, just a five-minute walk from St. Elisabeth's Cathedral and the historic heritage zone in the heart of the city. Its entrance can be reached via Rumanova Street, and the park covers around 26.2 acres, making it a long-time favorite for urban relaxation and recreation. The park is known for its green atmosphere, a pond with fish and ducks, children's playgrounds, and the multi-purpose Playko workout area. A key feature is the interactive Floating Fountain, controlled by artificial intelligence, which visitors can enjoy during warmer months. Near City Park, many of Košice’s top attractions are within easy walking distance. The most famous is St. Elisabeth's Cathedral, along with the Singing Fountain and carillon, the Urban Tower, St. Michael's Chapel, and the main square. The nearby Rumanova public swimming pool is also a popular spot, and the Art Nouveau Skating Pavilion from 1909, now the four-star Villa Sandy resort, stands just at the edge of the park. Other nearby attractions include the Franciscan Church, Dominican Church, Jakab Palace, State Theatre, Csáky–Dessewffy Palace, Andrássy Palace, and the University of Pavol Jozef Šafárik campus.
