The Literary and Music Museum (Museum of Literature and Music) is located at Lazovná 240/9 (also listed as Lazovná 9) in Banská Bystrica, central Slovakia. Established in 1969, the museum was originally housed in the building where Slovak writer Ján Botto lived, worked, and died, and it is currently an organizational unit of the State Scientific Library. Near the museum, visitors can explore several major attractions. The Museum of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP Museum), one of the top attractions in the city and dedicated to the Slovak National Uprising during World War II, is within walking distance. SNP Square (Slovak National Uprising Square), the historic main square and lively heart of the city, is close by and named after the significant WWII uprising. Banská Bystrica Castle, a medieval fortress built in the 13th century serving as royal residence and cultural center, is nearby. Marian Square offers a charming atmosphere, and the Church of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, a stunning 17th-century Baroque church, is in the city center. The Central Slovak Museum, established in 1889, Thuro's House (a magnificent 15th-century Gothic building), and Zvolen Castle (a 14th-century medieval fortress) are also easily accessible.
