Mestský park in Banská Bystrica is one of the city’s oldest public green spaces, created in the late 19th century as a leisure promenade for the growing urban population. Its elegant layout, mature trees, and calm atmosphere still reflect the spirit of a historical city park designed for slow walks, social gatherings, and quiet relaxation. Inside the park, visitors can enjoy long tree‑lined alleys, seasonal flowerbeds, and open lawns ideal for resting or reading. One of the most interesting features is the presence of historic pavilions and small architectural elements, reminders of the park’s original design. Benches placed along winding paths offer peaceful views of the surrounding greenery. The park also includes a children’s playground, small sports areas, and shaded corners that stay pleasantly cool in summer. Its proximity to the city centre makes it a favourite everyday escape for locals, especially families and students. In autumn, the park becomes particularly atmospheric as the old trees turn deep shades of gold and red.

Mestský Park (City Park) is located at Janka Kráľa 4440 in Banská Bystrica, central Slovakia, in the heart of the city. It is also known as Mestský park na Tajovského ulici and is described as the green heart of the city for generations. The park covers an area of 78,807 square meters and is currently undergoing a historic revitalization project to bring new greenery and space for relaxation and culture. Near Mestský Park, visitors can explore several major attractions. Slovak National Uprising Square (Námestie SNP), the historic main square and lively heart of the city, is just a short 5-minute walk away. The Museum of the Slovak National Uprising, one of the top attractions dedicated to WWII history and the 1944 Slovak National Uprising, is within easy walking distance. Banská Bystrica Castle (Town Castle with Barbican), a 14th-century medieval fortress, is just 49 meters from downtown and close to the park. The Clock Tower, the most noticeable landmark on SNP Square, is nearby, along with the Cathedral of Saint Francis Xavier, a stunning Baroque cathedral. Marian Square offers a charming atmosphere, the Central Slovak Museum (established 1889) is close by, and Thurzo's House (a magnificent 15th-century Gothic building) is also easily accessible from the park.
