The Museum of Military History in Piešťany is one of Slovakia’s most engaging military museums, located on the grounds of the former airbase that once served as a key training centre. Its spacious hangars and outdoor areas allow for an impressive display of aircraft, vehicles, and equipment from the 20th century. An interesting fact is that Piešťany was home to one of the country’s major helicopter units, and several machines exhibited here actually served in Slovak and Czechoslovak forces. Inside, visitors can explore exhibitions on aviation history, including jet fighters, training aircraft, and helicopters that illustrate the evolution of military flight. The collection of armoured vehicles—tanks, personnel carriers, and reconnaissance machines—offers a close look at Cold War engineering. Uniforms, medals, communication devices, and personal items provide insight into the daily life of soldiers across different eras. One highlight is the preserved MiG‑21 cockpit, where visitors can see the cramped environment pilots operated in. Outdoor displays include missile systems and radar equipment that once guarded the country’s airspace.

The Museum of Military History (Vojenské historické múzeum Piešťany) is located at Žilinská cesta 6545, 921 01 Piešťany, in western Slovakia, in the former military airport base of Piešťany Airport. The museum forms an organic part of the Military History Institute in Bratislava and is a departmental specialized museum with nationwide scope focused on documenting military history. The museum is located approximately 1.5 kilometers from Piešťany train/bus station. To reach it, walk northeast on the main street (Hlavná ulica) for about 500 meters until reaching the intersection with Žilinská cesta, then turn left and continue walking for about 1 kilometer. Note: The museum is currently temporarily closed until further notice for technical reasons, so visitors should check opening status before planning a visit. Near the museum, the main attractions of Piešťany are accessible. The famous Spa Island (Kúpeľný ostrov) with art sculptures, historic spa buildings, and the beautiful Colonnade Bridge (Kolonádový most) with the famous statue of a man breaking his crutch – the symbol of Piešťany – is a short walk away. The oldest spa building, Napoleon's Bath from the 19th century, is also on the island.
