After its industrial closure in the postwar years, the site was gradually reclaimed by artists in the 1970s, giving rise to the influential San Lorenzo Group. In 1984, the landmark exhibition Ateliers, curated by Achille Bonito Oliva, introduced the space to the international art scene. Today, the Fondazione Pastificio Cerere promotes contemporary art through exhibitions, residencies, and educational programs, while preserving the building’s industrial heritage. It hosts artist studios, a photography school, and the Rome University of Fine Arts, fostering creative exchange between artists, students, and the local community. The foundation remains committed to supporting emerging talent and engaging with the urban fabric of Rome through public art and collaborative projects.
