Roseto Comunale, Rome’s enchanting Municipal Rose Garden, graces the slopes of the Aventine Hill, offering a serene escape with sweeping views over the Circus Maximus, Palatine Hill, and the dome of the Synagogue. Spanning approximately 10,000 square meters, this verdant haven boasts over 1,100 rose varieties from around the globe, including rare specimens like the green-petaled Rosa Chinensis Viridiflora and the color-shifting Rosa Chinensis Mutabilis. Established in 1950 on the grounds of a former Jewish cemetery, the garden pays homage to its heritage through pathways designed in the shape of a menorah and commemorative steles at its entrances. The Roseto is divided into two sections: the Upper Garden, showcasing a permanent collection of ancient and modern roses, and the Lower Garden, which hosts the annual "Premio Roma" competition, celebrating new rose cultivars. Open to the public daily from April 21 to mid-June, with a possible brief reopening in October, the garden welcomes visitors free of charge from 8:30 AM to 7:30 PM. Whether you're a botany enthusiast or seeking a tranquil retreat, Roseto Comunale offers a captivating blend of natural beauty and historical significance in the heart of Rome.
