The Andrejs Upīts’ Memorial Museum in Riga preserves the final home of one of Latvia’s most prolific and controversial literary figures. Located at Brīvības iela 38–4, the early‑20th‑century apartment retains its original layout and atmosphere, offering three commemorative rooms – dining room, living room, and study – filled with the writer’s personal belongings, photographs, and an extensive library. Upīts, known for his novels, criticism, and political engagement, lived here from 1951 until his death in 1970, and the interiors reflect both his creative process and the paradoxes of life under Socialist ideology. Visitors can explore the environment that shaped his work, gaining insight into his literary legacy and the cultural debates of his time. The Andrejs Upīts Memorial Museum is located at 38 Brīvības Street, apartment 4, in the center of Riga. This museum preserves the former home of Andrejs Upīts, a significant Latvian writer and literary critic, where he lived for the last 19 years of his life. The museum offers visitors a personal glimpse into Upīts' world, with rooms furnished as they were during his time, including his study, dining room, and living spaces, all reflecting his personality and creative spirit. The extensive library of over seven thousand books offers insight into his literary influences and work style. Located in an early 20th-century building designed by architect Ernests Pole, this place is not only a tribute to Upīts but also a piece of Riga’s architectural heritage.
