The Riga Aviation Museum offers a striking open-air display of Soviet-era military and civilian aircraft, making it one of the most distinctive aviation collections in the Baltics. Established in 1956 and relocated in 2022 to Skultes iela near Riga International Airport, the museum features an array of Cold War relics including MiG fighter jets, Tupolev bombers, and Mil helicopters. Most aircraft are exhibited outdoors, giving visitors an up-close view of their scale and engineering. Founded by aviation enthusiast Victor Talpa, the museum preserves Latvia’s aeronautical legacy through rare models, engines, and aviation equipment. The Riga Aviation Museum is located at Skultes iela 35, near Riga International Airport in Mārupes novads, just outside the main city area. Established in 1956, this outdoor museum showcases a unique and extensive collection of Soviet-era military aircraft, helicopters, and aviation equipment displayed mostly outdoors. Among the highlights are the Tupolev Tu-22M bomber, various MiG fighter jets, and Mil helicopters, offering a fascinating glimpse into Cold War-era aviation technology. The museum’s setting near the airport makes it accessible, although it requires a bus ride of around 40 minutes from Riga city center. Nearby, visitors can also explore the National Library of Latvia, known as the Castle of Light, along with Victory Park, making the area culturally rich and diverse for those interested in both aviation history and architectural landmarks.
