The Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation, housed within the Riga Dome Cathedral ensemble, is the oldest public museum in Latvia and the Baltic States, with origins dating back to 1773. Founded on the collection of physician Nikolaus von Himsel, it has grown into a vast repository of over half a million items tracing the city’s story from its earliest settlements through the Hanseatic League, foreign rule, and modern independence.
