Secret Wartime Tunnels

About

Hidden deep within the cliffs beneath Dover Castle, the Secret Wartime Tunnels offer a gripping journey into Britain’s military past. Originally carved during the Napoleonic Wars, the tunnels gained strategic importance during World War II, serving as a command centre for Operation Dynamo—the daring evacuation of Allied troops from Dunkirk. Visitors can explore the labyrinthine passageways where maps were drawn, orders issued, and lives saved under constant threat. Atmospheric soundscapes and immersive exhibits bring the tension and urgency of wartime decision-making vividly to life. From hospital rooms to communications hubs, each space reveals the resilience and ingenuity of those who worked underground to defend the nation. A visit to the tunnels is not just a step into history—it’s a descent into the heart of Britain’s wartime legacy.
