Margaret Island, or Margitsziget, is Budapest’s green oasis in the Danube, offering a blend of history, relaxation, and recreation. The island is famous for its lush parks, walking and cycling paths, and the 5 km running track that circles its perimeter, making it a favorite for joggers and cyclists alike. At the heart of the island stands the Art Nouveau water tower, built in 1911, which now serves as a lookout and exhibition space—climb to the top for panoramic views of the city. History enthusiasts can explore the evocative ruins of the 13th-century Dominican convent, where Saint Margaret, the island’s namesake and a revered Hungarian saint, lived and is buried.
