The Castle Garden Bazaar (Várkert Bazár) is a neo-Renaissance architectural gem at the foot of Buda Castle, designed by Miklós Ybl and completed in 1883 as an elegant border to the royal gardens. Once a hub for social gatherings and cultural events, it later housed art schools, galleries, and sculptors’ studios. After suffering damage in World War II and years of neglect, the complex was meticulously restored, reopening as a vibrant cultural venue and World Heritage Site. Today, visitors can explore lush terraced gardens, majestic fountains, and intricately decorated pavilions while enjoying panoramic views of the Danube and Buda Castle. The Bazaar hosts exhibitions, concerts, theater performances, and seasonal festivals, making it a lively center for art and culture. Its scenic stairways, escalators, and lifts provide a picturesque alternative route up to the castle, and archaeological finds from the Middle Ages and Turkish occupation are on display in the southern wing.
