Parc des Contades is located at 20 Avenue de la Paix in Strasbourg's upscale Contades neighborhood, just north of Place de la République in the Neustadt UNESCO district and alongside the serene River Aar. Created in 1764 as an extramural promenade by Marshal de Contades on a former firing range, this green oasis features shaded lawns, a 19th-century cast-iron bandstand hosting free summer concerts, gated playgrounds with swings and slides, ping-pong tables, picnic spots, and elegant early-1900s Villa Osterloff with its medieval-Renaissance turrets. Nearby rise the Synagogue de la Paix, National Theatre of Strasbourg, Palais du Rhin across the square, and easy tram access at Parc du Contades stop on lines B and E, with 10-minute walks to Cathédrale Notre-Dame and Grande Île historic center.
