La Clerecía is one of Salamanca’s most imposing Baroque monuments, a grand complex originally built in the 17th century for the Jesuit Order. Its monumental façade, with soaring columns and sculptural detail, dominates the historic centre and reflects the ambition of the Counter‑Reformation. Inside, the church impresses with its vast nave, dramatic altarpieces, and the interplay of light that enhances the richness of its decoration. The adjoining college, now home to the Pontifical University of Salamanca, preserves elegant cloisters and academic spaces that highlight the building’s long educational legacy. One of the most memorable experiences is climbing the Scala Coeli towers, which offer panoramic views over the rooftops, cathedrals, and sandstone skyline. La Clerecía stands as a symbol of Salamanca’s Baroque splendour, blending religious, architectural, and scholarly history in a single monumental ensemble.

La Clerecía is located on Calle de la Compañía, in the historic centre of Salamanca, just a few steps from Casa de las Conchas and a short walk from Plaza Mayor along the main pedestrian route of the old town. The building stands opposite the historic University of Salamanca buildings and very close to the university’s famous Plateresque façade and the Escuelas Mayores, placing it at the heart of the city’s academic quarter. Within a few minutes on foot you can reach the Old and New Cathedrals, the Cielo de Salamanca mural, the Palacio de Monterrey, the Palacio de la Salina and numerous cafés and shops on Rúa Mayor and Calle Compañía, making La Clerecía an easy stop on any walking tour of Salamanca’s UNESCO‑listed historic core.
