Huis te Zaanen is a small yet historically significant monument in the Zaanenpark in north Haarlem, standing on the site of a medieval castle that once belonged to the Lords of Zaanen. The original stronghold was destroyed in 1296 after its owner, Willem van Zaenden, became entangled in the plot against Count Floris V. Over the centuries the estate changed hands many times before the current building—likely the former gatehouse—was transformed and expanded. In the 18th century it evolved into a refined country residence, later restored by architect H.P. Berlage in 1881. The Bredius family lived here for decades before donating it to the municipality, after which it served as a branch of the Haarlem Public Library for sixty years. Today, Huis te Zaanen blends heritage with contemporary use, housing private residences and offering atmospheric rooms for meetings and events, all surrounded by the greenery of the Zaanenpark.

Huis te Zaanen is located at Orionweg 1 in Haarlem-Noord, within the serene Zaanenpark (also called Park Zaanenbos). This historic former gatehouse or manor remnant from the 13th century sits in a quiet residential neighbourhood away from the city centre, surrounded by green parkland that once featured a moat. Nearby are the Schoterbos park, local walking paths through the Te Zaanenkwartier district, and easy access by car or bike to Haarlem Centraal station (about 10 minutes away), with the historic old town, Grote Markt, and museums like Teylers a short drive south.
