Sammlung Rosengart is one of Lucerne’s most intimate art experiences, shaped by the remarkable collecting vision of Angela Rosengart and her father Siegfried, both close to many artists they represented. The museum occupies the former Swiss National Bank, whose grand neoclassical halls now frame one of Europe’s finest private collections of modern art. A personal highlight is the strong emotional thread running through the galleries — many works were gifts or created during lifelong friendships. The upper floor is devoted to Pablo Picasso, with more than 30 paintings and over 100 drawings spanning his late period. Angela Rosengart herself sat for several portraits, adding a rare biographical dimension. The lower level presents an exceptional group of Paul Klee works, tracing his shift from playful abstraction to poetic symbolism. Additional rooms feature Cézanne, Monet, Matisse, Chagall, and other giants of the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum’s scale allows for slow, close viewing, making it a serene counterpoint to larger institutions.

Sammlung Rosengart Luzern is an important art museum in the heart of Lucerne, Switzerland. It is located at Pilatusstrasse 10, just a few minutes’ walk from the railway station, in one of the city’s most convenient central areas. The museum is especially known for its collection of modern art, including major works connected with Paul Klee and Pablo Picasso. Because of its central location, it is easy to combine a visit with other tourist attractions nearby. Lake Lucerne is within walking distance, as are the Chapel Bridge, the Old Town, and the lakeside promenade. Other cultural stops such as the KunstMuseum Luzern and the Bourbaki Panorama are also close by, making this a good place to include in a day of sightseeing in Lucerne.
