Archizoom

About

Archizoom, located at EPFL in Lausanne, is one of Switzerland’s most forward‑looking spaces dedicated to architecture, design, and the built environment. Rather than functioning as a traditional museum, it operates as a laboratory of ideas, presenting exhibitions that question how we inhabit cities, landscapes, and digital spaces. Its name nods to the radical Italian collective Archizoom Associati, signalling a commitment to experimentation and critical thinking. Inside, visitors encounter concept‑driven exhibitions that often blend architecture with sociology, ecology, and technology. Models, prototypes, immersive installations, and multimedia works reveal how architects and designers respond to contemporary challenges—from climate adaptation to new forms of mobility. Archizoom is known for inviting international studios and researchers, making each exhibition feel like a window into global architectural debates. A particularly interesting aspect is its role as EPFL’s cultural interface: many shows highlight ongoing research, allowing visitors to see how robotics, materials science, or environmental engineering shape tomorrow’s buildings. Public talks and workshops further enrich the experience, turning the venue into a meeting point for students, professionals, and curious visitors.

Location

Archizoom is one of Lausanne’s most interesting cultural spaces for visitors who enjoy architecture and design. It is located on the EPFL campus in the south of the city, inside the SG building at Station 15. The venue is easy to reach by metro, with the EPFL stop nearby, and it offers free admission. Although Archizoom is outside the historic centre, it can be combined with other attractions in the lakeside district. The EPFL and UNIL campus area is pleasant for a walk, and the nearby Lake Geneva shoreline is a good place to relax after a visit. Visitors can also head toward The Olympic Museum, one of Lausanne’s best-known tourist attractions, or continue into the city centre for the old town and Lausanne Cathedral. Archizoom is a good stop for anyone interested in contemporary culture, architecture, and modern university life in Lausanne.
