The Museum of Natural Sciences in Târgu Mureș is located on Strada Horea, near the Medieval Citadel. It is a section of the Mureș County Museum and focuses on the flora, fauna, minerals, and paleontology of the region. Exhibits include dioramas of local habitats, a collection of fossils, rocks and minerals from the Carpathians, mounted birds and mammals, and displays on ecosystems of the Mureș River Valley. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and educational programs for children. Its location near the Citadel places it within the historic core of the city. The Târgu Mureș Citadel, built in the 17th century, has preserved bastions, gates, and the Reformed Church inside its walls. It’s a popular spot for walks and open-air events. A short walk away is Roses Square, the city’s main pedestrian promenade with fountains, cafés, and Art Nouveau buildings. At one end stands the Orthodox Cathedral, with its large Neo-Byzantine domes. Nearby is the Palace of Culture, an Art Nouveau landmark housing the Museum of History and Archaeology, the Art Museum, and the famous Hall of Mirrors. Also close by are the Teleki-Bolyai Library, a Baroque gem with rare books and manuscripts, and the Town Hall with its Secession-style tower. The synagogue and the Bolyai Museum are within easy reach too.
