Gradac Park is one of Dubrovnik’s quietest escapes, perched above the sea just outside the Old Town walls. Created in the late 19th century, it was once a popular promenade for locals seeking fresh air away from the crowded medieval streets. Its clifftop position offers sweeping views of the Adriatic and Lovrijenac Fortress, making it a favourite spot for painters, photographers, and anyone wanting a peaceful break from the city’s bustle. The park’s most striking feature is its dramatic overlook above Danče Beach, a historic bathing area used for centuries. From here, you can watch waves crash against the rocks and see the fortress from an angle rarely captured in postcards. Gradac also gained modern fame as a filming location for Game of Thrones, where it appeared in several King’s Landing scenes. Inside the park, you’ll find shaded paths lined with pines, benches tucked into quiet corners, and a small fountain that marks the centre of the garden. It’s an ideal place for a slow walk, a moment of solitude, or a sunset view over the bay. Gradac Park is one of the largest and most beloved green spaces in Dubrovnik, often described as a hidden gem tucked just above the sea. It stands on a cliff edge in the Pile-Kono district, only about 200 metres from the Old Town, overlooking the Adriatic and the rocky Danče beach below. The park is reached on foot: exit the Old Town through Pile Gate, walk along Ulica Branitelja Dubrovnika, then turn onto Ulica Don Frana Bulića, which leads directly to the entrance. Its address is Ulica Don Frana Bulića, and a large car park sits beside the entrance. The park is surrounded by major attractions. Fort Lovrijenac, Dubrovnik's "Gibraltar," lies just across Pile Bay, while Pile Gate, the Large Onofrio's Fountain, and the Franciscan Monastery are only a few minutes' walk away. Nearby are Bellevue Beach, the Hilton Imperial hotel, and the western entrance to the city walls, with the Old Town and the Stradun just beyond.
