Rijeka City Museum – Cube

Rijeka City Museum – The Cube, known locally as Kockica, is located at Trg Riccarda Zanelle 2, in the very heart of Rijeka, just a short walk from the waterfront and the main city promenade. This distinctive cubic building was designed in the 1970s by renowned Croatian architect Neven Šegvić originally for the Museum of the National Revolution and today serves as one of the exhibition spaces of the City Museum of Rijeka. Its modernist, geometric shape stands out among the historic facades of the center and is a landmark in itself. The Cube presents thematic exhibitions dedicated to Rijeka’s transformation into a modern port city, its industrial, political and cultural history, especially during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It complements the main museum building in the Sugar Palace, offering a more focused view on everyday life and urban development. Its central location makes sightseeing very easy. Just steps away is the vibrant Korzo, Rijeka’s main pedestrian street with cafes, shops and historic buildings like the City Clock Tower. Nearby you can visit St. Vitus Cathedral, the baroque rotunda and symbol of the city, the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral in the former Governor’s Palace, and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. The Rijeka waterfront, the market and Trsat Castle on the hill above the city are also within easy reach.
