Slovenska Plaža is Budva’s most iconic seaside promenade, a long curve of beach and gardens that has shaped the town’s modern identity. Developed in the 1980s as a resort complex, it was designed to resemble a Mediterranean village, with tiled roofs, shaded courtyards, and pedestrian lanes connecting pools, cafés, and small squares. Its name—“Slavic Beach”—reflects Budva’s cultural revival during that period, when tourism began to flourish along the Montenegrin coast. What makes Slovenska Plaža interesting is its blend of leisure and local character. The beach stretches for more than a kilometre, offering a mix of sandy and pebbled sections, each with a slightly different atmosphere. Behind it lies a network of gardens and promenades, ideal for evening walks when the air cools and the sea breeze carries music from nearby terraces. The resort area also includes open‑air stages used for summer concerts and folklore performances, adding a cultural layer to the holiday setting. Inside the complex, visitors can explore small boutiques, art stalls, and cafés that retain a retro charm from Budva’s early tourism era.

Location

Slovenska Plaža is Budva’s main town beach, stretching along the seafront promenade just east of the Old Town walls and running for well over a kilometre towards Bečići. The long strip of sand and fine pebbles sits right below the busy waterfront walkway known as Slovenska Obala. A short stroll west along the promenade brings you straight into the Old Town, where you can explore the Citadel, the Church of St. John the Baptist, the Holy Trinity Church and the Budva City Museum, all clustered within the medieval walls. The marina and the northern side of the Old Town are also close by, and the same coastal path continues east towards quieter stretches of beach and the neighbouring resort of Bečići. Everything is connected by the easy flat promenade, so after time on the sand you can walk into the historic centre for the fortress, churches and museum, or simply stay along the waterfront without any rush, enjoying the lively yet relaxed atmosphere of Budva’s main beach.
