Segelschulschiff Gorch Fock

About

The Segelschulschiff Gorch Fock is one of Germany’s most famous tall ships and a proud symbol of Kiel’s maritime tradition. Launched in 1958, the vessel was built as a training ship for the German Navy, continuing a legacy that began with its predecessor of the same name. With its elegant white hull and towering masts, the Gorch Fock is a striking sight on the Kiel Fjord, where it regularly participates in naval ceremonies and international sailing events. Generations of cadets have learned seamanship aboard the ship, gaining practical experience in navigation, teamwork, and discipline. Beyond its role as a training vessel, the Gorch Fock serves as a floating ambassador, representing Germany at regattas and port visits around the world. For visitors to Kiel, the ship embodies both tradition and adventure, linking the city’s seafaring past with its present as a hub of maritime culture.
