Nature House Villa Elfvik in Espoo is an elegant Art Nouveau villa that serves as the city’s environmental education centre, beautifully positioned at the edge of the Laajalahti Nature Reserve. Built in 1904 for Baroness Elvira Standertskjöld, the villa’s asymmetrical form, steep roof and decorative details reflect its aristocratic origins, later transformed into a public nature house through dedicated civic efforts. Today, visitors can explore exhibitions that introduce Espoo’s diverse natural environments, enjoy seasonal displays and learn about sustainable living. The ground floor hosts the “Long live Espoo” exhibition, while the upper level features Badger’s Forest, an imaginative space for children. From the villa, several short nature trails lead into the surrounding wetlands and forests, offering opportunities for birdwatching and quiet walks. With its blend of history, architecture and environmental education, Villa Elfvik provides an inviting gateway to the natural heritage of Espoo.

Nature House Villa Elfvik is located at Elfvikintie 4, 02600 Espoo, in the Laajalahti area on the shore of Laajalahti Bay, at the Ruukinranta side of Espoo’s Waterfront Walkway. The nature house sits right beside the Laajalahti Nature Reserve, with easy access to marked nature trails, birds‑wetlands and a small playground and café in the villa grounds, making it an ideal stop for a short walk, family outing, or cycling trip along the waterfront. Nearby you can also reach other Espoo landmarks such as the Gallen‑Kallela Museum, exhibition venues in Tapiola, and Leppävaara by road or public transport, allowing visitors to combine a nature‑oriented visit with cultural and shopping activities in the wider Laajalahti–Tapiola area.
