Eteläpuisto is a historic lakeside park at the southern end of Tampere’s city centre, offering a calm green escape with open lawns, walking paths and wide views over Lake Pyhäjärvi. Developed in stages between 1915 and 1929, the park has long served as a recreational landscape and cultural venue, once hosting concerts on its classical round stage and later becoming known for major events and gatherings. Its shoreline paths connect naturally to the Pyynikki ridge area, creating a seamless link between urban life and Tampere’s characteristic lake scenery. Today Eteläpuisto remains a cherished place for relaxation, picnics and quiet strolls, valued for its spaciousness and its role as one of the city’s most atmospheric waterfront parks.

Eteläpuisto Park, also known as Southern Park, is located at Eteläpuisto, 33200 Tampere, Finland, at the southern end of Hämeenpuisto boulevard on the shores of Lake Pyhäjärvi. This expansive green space offers lake views, jogging tracks, and sports facilities like the historic Koulukatu ice rink area, now used for basketball and more. The striking Co-operative Memorial by sculptor Wäinö Aaltonen stands prominently within the park, alongside paths connecting to Pyynikki Ridge trails. Hämeenpuisto links north to city center landmarks like Tampere Cathedral and Keskustori square, while Ratina Stadium and Tampere-talo concert hall lie just across the water, accessible by foot, bike, or tram.
