Bergen Norway
Location

The University Museum of Bergen is located atop the historic Nygårdshøyden hill, right in the heart of the city’s academic district. Its grand architecture and sprawling gardens serve as a central anchor for the University of Bergen campus, positioned just a short walk south from the main city center and the National Theatre. This location offers a quieter, more intellectual atmosphere compared to the bustling harbor, while still remaining fully integrated into the urban fabric of the city. The area surrounding the museum is exceptionally rich in cultural and natural attractions, making it easy to spend an entire day exploring the neighborhood. Directly adjacent to the Natural History department is the University Botanical Garden, a lush, tranquil space featuring exotic plants and serene pathways that are perfect for a post-museum stroll. Just down the hill to the east lies the scenic Lille Lungegårdsvann, the famous octagonal lake that serves as the gateway to the KODE Art Museums, one of the largest collections of art and design in Scandinavia. Here, you can view significant works by Edvard Munch and other Nordic masters.
