Vår Frue Church

About

Vår Frue Church is one of Trondheim’s oldest surviving landmarks, a medieval stone church that has stood just north of the city centre since the 12th century. Its simple yet dignified architecture reflects the transition from Romanesque to early Gothic forms, with thick walls, pointed arches and a calm, spacious interior shaped by centuries of worship. The church has long been a place of refuge and community, and today it continues that role through its open‑door policy, offering daily hospitality, music and quiet space for reflection. Its tower and pale stone façade form a familiar silhouette amid the surrounding streets, linking modern Trondheim with its medieval past. Inside, the blend of historic atmosphere and contemporary social mission gives Vår Frue a distinctive character, making it both a cultural monument and a living heart of the city.
