Cēsis Castle Park is one of the most atmospheric historic landscapes in Latvia, unfolding between the medieval castle ruins and the elegant New Castle. Its origins date back to the 18th and 19th centuries, when the von Sievers family reshaped the grounds into a romantic park inspired by European landscape‑garden traditions. Winding paths, old trees, and carefully framed views were designed to highlight the dramatic silhouette of the medieval fortress, turning the park into a living extension of Cēsis’ heritage. An interesting feature is the Swan Pond, a picturesque water basin that has been part of the estate for centuries and remains a favourite spot for visitors. The park also contains the Lademaher Tower, offering elevated views over the town, and several historical monuments that reflect different eras of Cēsis’ cultural life. Seasonal blooms, lantern‑lit events, and open‑air festivals bring the park to life throughout the year. Location

Cēsis Castle Park lies directly below Cēsis Medieval Castle and the New Castle, forming a green amphitheatre at the foot of the hill on which the castle complex stands. Laid out in the early 19th century by the Sievers family in the spirit of English landscape gardens, it features winding paths, lawns, romantic viewpoints and a large pond reflecting the castle ruins. Grand dolomite stairs with sculpted child figures lead down from the castle square into the park, creating an elegant entrance and a natural connection between the historic buildings and the greenery. In summer a small kiosk by the steps turns into an open‑air café, and a park stage hosts concerts and cultural events. Within and around the park you will find several important sights: the ruins of Cēsis Medieval Castle, the New Castle with the Cēsis History and Art Museum, and Riekstu Hill, an ancient settlement mound linked to the very beginnings of the town. A short walk from the park brings you into the cobbled streets of Cēsis Old Town with St John’s Church, Cēsis Exhibition Hall and numerous cafés and small shops, making the park an ideal starting point for exploring both nature and history.
