Maija Park is a leafy city park just a few minutes’ walk south of Cēsis Old Town, close to Cēsis Hotel and the main streets leading towards the castle hill. Created in the 19th century in a romantic style, it features winding paths, lawns, flowerbeds and a pond with fountains that in summer is often home to a pair of elegant black swans. A large part of the park is designed for active recreation, with a children’s playground, cycling track, skatepark and outdoor table‑tennis tables, making it popular with local families all year round. Benches and shaded corners offer quieter spots for reading or simply enjoying the view of trees and water. From Maija Park it is only a short stroll back to the medieval centre of Cēsis, including Cēsis Medieval Castle, Cēsis Castle Park and the New Castle with the History and Art Museum. Nearby you can also reach St John’s Church, cafés and small shops in the old town, so the park works well as a relaxing stop between sightseeing highlights.
