The Maribor Synagogue is one of the oldest preserved synagogues in Europe and a rare witness to the once‑vibrant Jewish community of the city. After the expulsion of Jews in the late Middle Ages, the building changed roles many times — from a Catholic church to a warehouse — before being rediscovered and restored as a heritage site. Inside, the atmosphere is intentionally minimal, allowing the stone walls and Gothic proportions to speak for themselves. Visitors can explore a small but thoughtful exhibition on Jewish life in medieval Maribor, including ritual objects, archival documents, and stories of local families. The synagogue also hosts rotating cultural programmes: chamber concerts, historical lectures, and exhibitions that highlight Jewish art and memory.
