The Naval Museum in Varna is one of Bulgaria’s most engaging maritime institutions, tracing the country’s seafaring history from ancient times to the modern navy. Founded in 1923, it occupies a graceful building near the Sea Garden and offers a mix of indoor exhibitions and outdoor displays that make it appealing to both history lovers and casual visitors. Inside, the highlight is the naval history hall, where uniforms, navigation instruments and ship models illustrate Bulgaria’s maritime development. Particularly striking is the torpedo collection, showing early designs and Cold War‑era technology. The museum also preserves a detailed Black Sea trade exhibit, revealing how Varna connected merchants across the region. One of the most popular attractions is the outdoor ship display. Here you can explore real vessels, including the torpedo boat Drazki, famous for its role in the Balkan Wars. Standing on its deck offers a rare, hands‑on sense of naval life. The Naval Museum in Varna is right where you expect a maritime museum to be – on the edge of the Sea Garden, overlooking the Black Sea. The address is bul. Primorski 2, 9000 Varna, Bulgaria. It is inside the beautiful old Italian-style building near the entrance to the Sea Garden, so you get sea views as soon as you step out. Outside you will see real anchors, helicopters and the famous torpedo boat Drazki, and inside is the whole story of the Bulgarian navy. Because it is in the Sea Garden, you are surrounded by attractions. Just a few steps away are the Aquarium, the Dolphinarium, the Natural History Museum and the Copernicus Astronomy Complex. If you walk back toward the center you reach the Archaeological Museum, which holds the oldest gold treasure in the world, the Roman Baths, the Ethnographic Museum and the big Cathedral of the Assumption. It is also very close to the beach promenade, the Varna Opera House and the Summer Theatre, so you can easily spend a morning at the museum and then continue with a walk along the sea or through the park.
