Cukrarna Gallery, opened in 2021, is Ljubljana’s bold new centre for contemporary art, housed in a dramatically renovated 19th-century sugar refinery. Managed by the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana, it offers a striking architectural blend of industrial heritage and modern design. The gallery serves as a vibrant platform for visual, intermedia, performance, and sound art, with a curatorial focus on socially engaged and experimental practices. Its programme includes solo and group exhibitions, installations, and events that challenge conventions and foster dialogue. Cukrarna is more than a venue—it’s a space for reflection, creation, and connection, rooted in humanistic values and open to global artistic currents.

Cukrarna Gallery stands at Poljanski nasip 40, on the edge of Ljubljana’s historical center. This renovated 19th-century sugar refinery turned contemporary art venue is celebrated for its innovative exhibitions spanning visual arts, performance, sound, and music. The gallery’s location is ideal for discovering local culture—just steps away are the architecturally significant Ambrožev trg with Savin Sever’s TGH-48 car park, and the iconic Plečnik sluice gate on the Ljubljanica River. Within a short scenic walk, visitors can reach Ljubljana Castle, the Dragon Bridge, and lively Central Market, along with riverside cafés and green spaces like Špica Park.
