Ljubljana City Theatre (Mestno gledališče ljubljansko) is one of Slovenia’s most prominent dramatic institutions, located in the heart of the capital. Founded in 1949, it has grown into the country’s second-largest theatre, known for its bold programming and contemporary relevance. With a resident ensemble of 35 actors and over 400 performances annually, the theatre attracts more than 90,000 visitors each season. Its repertoire blends classical and modern works, often commissioning new plays that reflect current social and cultural themes. The theatre operates across three venues—the Main Stage, Small Stage, and Studio—each offering a distinct atmosphere for diverse productions. Beyond performances, it runs educational programs, staged readings, and a respected publishing house, Knjižnica MGL, which has released over 170 volumes of theatrical literature. Ljubljana City Theatre (Mestno gledališče ljubljansko, MGL) is located at Čopova ulica 14, 1000 Ljubljana, right in the heart of the city center. The entrance is found in the passage between Čopova and Nazorjeva streets, placing it on one of Ljubljana’s main shopping and pedestrian thoroughfares, just steps from Prešeren Square and the Triple Bridge.
