Fužinski grad, or Fužine Castle, is Ljubljana’s only preserved Renaissance castle, nestled along the tranquil banks of the Ljubljanica River. Built between 1528 and 1557 by the Khisl family, it reflects the rise of local industrial and political influence. The castle’s architecture features four wings, corner towers, and a central courtyard with a well, blending fortress elements with residential elegance. Today, it houses the Museum of Architecture and Design (MAO), Slovenia’s national institution for architecture, urbanism, and design. Fužinski grad, also known as Fužine Castle, is located at Rusjanov trg 7 in Ljubljana, on the outskirts along the Ljubljanica River. This Renaissance castle, built between 1528 and 1557 by the Khisl family, is the only preserved Renaissance castle in Ljubljana and now houses the Museum of Architecture and Design (MAO). The museum is one of the oldest of its kind in Europe, showcasing exhibitions and events in architecture, urban planning, industrial and graphic design, as well as photography.
