Founded in 1948 as the Pioneer Theatre, the Zagreb Youth Theatre (Zagrebačko kazalište mladih – ZKM) has grown into one of Croatia’s most dynamic cultural institutions, renowned for its innovative approach to performance and education2. Originally a creative studio for children, it evolved into a professional company in 1977, fostering generations of actors, directors, and playwrights who have shaped the country’s contemporary theatre scene. Today, ZKM presents a diverse repertoire for all ages, blending contemporary interpretations of world classics with new Croatian drama, and engaging in bold, socially relevant productions1. Its two fully equipped stages, Istra and Janje, host works that push artistic boundaries while maintaining a strong commitment to audience development and cultural dialogue across Europe. With a legacy rooted in experimentation and collaboration, ZKM remains a vibrant hub where tradition meets the avant-garde, inspiring both local and international theatre communities.

The Zagreb Youth Theatre is centrally located at ul. Nikole Tesle 7, in the heart of Zagreb. Its setting places it just steps from some of the city's main cultural attractions, including the Croatian National Theatre and the vibrant Zrinjevac Park, both within a short walking distance.
