Founded in 1948, the Zagreb Puppet Theatre (Zagrebačko kazalište lutaka) is Croatia’s oldest professional puppet theatre and a beloved cultural landmark. Located in the city’s Lower Town, it has nurtured generations of young audiences with imaginative productions that balance spoken word and visual spectacle. Its repertoire blends timeless fairy tales and contemporary works, reinterpreted by both Croatian and international directors, while its in-house workshop crafts the puppets and sets that bring each story to life. With a main hall seating 212, a smaller stage, and a summer garden for open-air performances, the theatre stages over 300 productions to date and continues to tour internationally. Beyond entertainment, it engages in charitable initiatives and educational programs, fostering creativity and cultural appreciation from an early age. Today, it remains a vibrant space where tradition meets innovation, enchanting children and adults alike with the enduring magic of puppetry.

Zagreb Puppet Theatre, the city’s oldest professional puppet venue, is located at Ulica Baruna Trenka 3, just a short stroll from Zagreb’s central train station and the vibrant Lower Town district.
