Founded in 1989, Mala Scena Theatre is Croatia’s oldest private theatre for young audiences and a leading stage for children’s productions. Established by Vitomira Lončar, Ivica Šimić, Zvjezdana Ladika, and Roman Šušković Stipanović, it opened with The Princess and the Pea and has since staged over 120 premieres for more than 1.2 million visitors. Known for its intimate setting on Medveščak Street, the theatre blends artistry with education, nurturing a love of performance from early childhood. Its repertoire spans imaginative adaptations of classic tales, contemporary works, and original plays, often tackling themes that resonate with both young audiences and adults. Over the decades, Mala Scena has earned numerous awards, including the City of Zagreb Plaque, and continues to innovate through projects like the “Maloscenski inkubator” for emerging creators2.
