Galerija Miroslav Kraljević
About

Founded in 1986, Galerija Miroslav Kraljević (GMK) is an independent, non‑profit space dedicated to exploring and presenting contemporary art in Zagreb. Named after early 20th‑century painter Miroslav Kraljević, whose work helped shape Croatian modernism, the gallery was established by a collective of curators, critics, and artists committed to fostering experimental practices. Over the decades, GMK has hosted more than 350 exhibitions, performances, lectures, and residencies, often engaging with themes of political, cultural, and aesthetic memory1. Its program champions emerging and mid‑career artists, supports interdisciplinary projects, and builds connections with the international art community. Located on Šubićeva Street, the gallery operates as a platform for dialogue, research, and socially engaged art, with initiatives such as Open Studio and Factory encouraging process‑based creation. Today, GMK remains a vital hub for critical reflection and innovation within Croatia’s contemporary art scene.
