Tate Liverpool, set within the historic Royal Albert Dock, is one of the UK’s leading galleries for modern and contemporary art. Opened in 1988 in a converted red‑brick warehouse redesigned by architect James Stirling, it brought the national Tate collection beyond London, showcasing British art from 1500 to today alongside international modern works. Its light‑filled galleries have hosted major exhibitions by artists such as Picasso, Hockney, and Warhol, as well as the Turner Prize. The venue also presents thought‑provoking temporary shows, family activities, and community projects, making art accessible to all. Currently undergoing a major £29.7 million refurbishment to create new social spaces and upgraded galleries, Tate Liverpool is operating from a temporary base at RIBA North on Mann Island until its planned reopening in 2027.
