The Walker Art Gallery, a magnificent Grade II* listed building on William Brown Street, houses one of the largest and most important art collections in England outside London. Opened in 1877 and named after its benefactor Sir Andrew Barclay Walker, it forms part of National Museums Liverpool. Its galleries span over 700 years of art, from European Renaissance masterpieces by Rubens, Rembrandt and Poussin to iconic Pre‑Raphaelite works by Rossetti and Millais, Impressionist paintings by Monet and Degas, and modern pieces by Hockney, Freud and Lowry.
