About

Located near the Cologne Cathedral, the museum was built directly above a Roman villa and features the famous Dionysus mosaic in situ. Its collection spans over 2,000 years of history, with highlights including Roman glassware, jewelry, tools, and everyday objects unearthed in and around Cologne. The museum also houses the world’s largest collection of Roman glass and a reconstructed Roman tomb, providing insight into burial customs and craftsmanship. Visitors can explore how Roman life flourished in Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium, the city’s ancient name. Educational programs, temporary exhibitions, and interactive displays make the museum accessible to all ages. Currently undergoing renovation, the museum continues to offer select exhibitions at interim locations. It remains a cornerstone of Cologne’s cultural landscape, preserving the legacy of its Roman heritage for future generations.

The Roman-Germanic Museum is located at Cäcilienstraße 46 in Cologne’s Altstadt (Old Town), near Neumarkt square. The museum is situated in the Belgian House (Belgisches Haus) during renovations, presenting archaeological remains of a Roman town villa, including the famous Dionysus mosaic.
