The German Sports and Olympic Museum is located at Im Zollhafen 1, in the northern part of Cologne's Rheinauhafen harbor area along the River Rhine. It is housed in a former customs shed that has been extensively remodeled for museum use, preserving many historical and architectural features. The museum is within walking distance of Cologne Central Station and the historic old town, offering visitors a scenic route along the Rhine. Nearby attractions include the Chocolate Museum and the large Rhine promenade. Public transport access is convenient via bus lines 106, 132, and 133, as well as trams at the nearby Heumarkt stop, served by lines 1, 5, 7, and 9. Parking is available in an underground car park close to the museum, making it an easily accessible cultural spot with views of the river and the city skyline.​
