About

Founded by gallerist and collector Charlotte Zander, the collection was built over six decades and is internationally recognized for its depth and diversity. Originally displayed in Bönnigheim near Ludwigsburg, the collection moved to Cologne in 2021, where it now presents changing exhibitions that highlight both well-known and lesser-known artists outside the academic canon. With works by figures such as Séraphine Louis, Morris Hirshfield, and Nikifor, alongside many anonymous creators, Sammlung Zander challenges conventional definitions of art and celebrates creativity beyond institutional boundaries. The museum’s curatorial approach emphasizes the individuality and authenticity of these works, offering visitors a fresh perspective on artistic expression. As a non-profit institution, Sammlung Zander is committed to research, preservation, and public engagement, ensuring that the voices of self-taught artists remain visible and valued within the broader cultural landscape of Cologne.
