About

Founded in 1985 and located at Neumarkt, the museum preserves more than 300 drawings, 500 prints, all of Kollwitz’s posters, and a selection of her sculptures, offering an unparalleled insight into her artistic legacy. Kollwitz’s work is marked by deep empathy for the struggles of ordinary people, her pacifist convictions, and her unflinching portrayal of war, poverty, and grief. At the same time, her art conveys resilience, love, and hope, making it as relevant today as it was in her own time. The museum’s exhibitions are thoughtfully curated, combining permanent displays with changing shows that place her oeuvre in dialogue with contemporary themes and artists. After an extensive renovation, the museum is reopening in October 2025 with a renewed presentation under the title KOLLWITZ NEU SEHEN, highlighting both the timeless power of her work and the institution’s commitment to accessibility and sustainability. High above Cologne’s bustling city center, the Käthe Kollwitz Museum offers a moving and contemplative experience that resonates far beyond the walls of the gallery.
