Alcázar de Segovia

Alcázar de Segovia
About

The Alcázar of Segovia rises dramatically above the confluence of the Eresma and Clamores rivers, creating one of Spain’s most iconic silhouettes. Its distinctive shape, often compared to the bow of a ship, reflects centuries of architectural evolution, from its origins as a Roman fort to its transformation into a royal residence. Inside, richly decorated halls, armouries, and the famed Hall of Kings showcase the power and artistry of Castilian monarchs. The Alcázar also served as a state prison, a military academy, and a symbol of Spain’s medieval legacy. Visitors can climb the Tower of John II for sweeping views of the city and surrounding landscape, a highlight that reveals why this fortress held such strategic importance. Majestic, storied, and visually unforgettable, the Alcázar remains a defining landmark of Segovia.
