Museo Real Casa de Moneda de Segovia
About

Museo Real Casa de Moneda de Segovia is one of Spain’s most remarkable industrial heritage sites, set along the banks of the Eresma River beneath the Alcázar. Founded in the late 16th century under King Philip II, it is considered one of the oldest and most innovative mints in Europe, designed with cutting‑edge technology of its time to modernize coin production. The restored complex preserves its original hydraulic system, where waterwheels once powered the machinery that shaped and stamped metal. Inside, the museum offers an engaging journey through centuries of minting history, showcasing tools, presses, and coins that reveal how craftsmanship and engineering evolved. The building itself, with its stone walls and riverside setting, adds to the experience, creating a vivid sense of the past. Today, the Casa de Moneda stands as a testament to Segovia’s role in technological progress, inviting visitors to explore a unique blend of history, industry, and innovation.
