Iglesia de San Esteban

Iglesia de San Esteban
About

Iglesia de San Esteban is one of Segovia’s most striking Romanesque landmarks, instantly recognisable for its soaring bell tower, the tallest of its kind in the city. Built between the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, the church combines elegant proportions with the characteristic warmth of Castilian stone. Its exterior is defined by a beautiful arcaded gallery that wraps around the building, creating a rhythmic play of arches and shadows typical of Segovia’s Romanesque style. Inside, the atmosphere is serene, with a simple nave, sculpted capitals, and traces of medieval decoration that hint at its long spiritual history. The tower, visible from many points across the city, once served as both a symbol of faith and a watchful presence over the surrounding neighbourhood. San Esteban remains a powerful testament to Segovia’s medieval artistry and architectural identity.
