Muralla de Segovia

About

The Muralla de Segovia encircles the historic heart of the city with a powerful presence that has endured since the early Middle Ages. Built and expanded between the eleventh and fourteenth centuries, the walls once protected Segovia from external threats while defining its urban identity. Stretching for more than three kilometres, the fortification includes towers, gates, and lookout points that reveal the strategic importance of the city throughout its history. Much of the structure remains remarkably intact, offering visitors the chance to walk along restored sections and appreciate sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. The walls also frame key neighbourhoods, including the former Jewish Quarter, adding cultural depth to their defensive role. Today the Muralla de Segovia stands as a testament to the city’s resilience, craftsmanship, and enduring medieval character.
