Iglesia de San Millán is one of Segovia’s most impressive Romanesque temples, standing just outside the historic centre with a commanding presence that reflects its eleventh‑century origins. Inspired by the great Mozarabic church of San Millán de la Cogolla, it features three naves, robust stone pillars, and a striking exterior gallery that wraps around the building in the purest Segovian style. Its tall tower, built in stages over several centuries, rises above the surrounding neighbourhood and serves as a visual anchor for the area. Inside, the church preserves a serene atmosphere, enriched by medieval frescoes, sculpted capitals, and a layout that reveals the transition between early Christian and Romanesque traditions. As one of the oldest and most architecturally significant churches in the city, San Millán offers visitors a powerful glimpse into Segovia’s early medieval heritage.

Location

The Iglesia de San Millán is located in the historic city of Segovia, on the western side of the old town near the Roman Aqueduct at Avenida de Fernández Ladreda, 26, 40002 Segovia, Spain. It stands just off the main pedestrian avenue leading to the Aqueduct and Plaza del Azoguejo, only about 200–300 metres from the aqueduct itself and within easy walking distance of Segovia’s most famous sights: the Cathedral, Plaza Mayor, and the Alcázar. Nearby points of interest include the Church of San Clemente, the Centro Didáctico de la Judería (Segovia’s Jewish Quarter interpretation centre), the Torreón de Lozoya, and the Casa de los Picos, all reached in a few minutes on foot through the medieval streets and squares of the old town.
