Korenlei is one of Ghent’s most atmospheric waterfront promenades, stretching along the Lys and offering some of the city’s most iconic views. Once a bustling medieval quay where grain traders unloaded their goods, it formed the commercial heart of Ghent’s river traffic and played a key role in the city’s economic rise. Today, its historic guild houses, elegant façades and gently curving embankment create a picture‑perfect setting that captures the charm of the old port. From the opposite bank at Graslei, the reflections of the buildings shimmer on the water, especially at dusk when the quayside lights transform the area into one of the city’s most romantic spots. Korenlei remains a favourite place for visitors and locals to stroll, relax by the river or admire the sweeping views toward St. Michael’s Bridge and the medieval skyline. It is a timeless reminder of Ghent’s trading heritage and its enduring connection to the water.

Korenlei is located along the left bank of the Leie River in the heart of Ghent’s historic center, directly opposite the picturesque Graslei quay. This iconic waterfront features medieval guild houses and warehouses once bustling with grain trade, now lined with cafes and offering stunning reflections in the water. Nearby, St. Michael’s Bridge provides panoramic views of the area, while a short stroll leads to Graslei’s vibrant terraces, Korenmarkt square with its shops and events, the Belfry, St. Nicholas’ Church, Gravensteen Castle across the river, and pedestrian streets into Patershol neighborhood full of eateries and culture.
